The Yukon's Golden Girls had
it's beginnings in June 2004, when I wanted to work with the
local senior ladies to provide some unique entertainment for the Canada Senior
Games which were held in Whitehorse, Yukon in September
2004. Thanks to Yukon entertainer Hank Karr, I've had the
pleasure of working with 11 very charming ladies ranging in
age from 60 to 82 year young.
This is their first official photo taken at the dress
rehearsal for family and friends.
Dance was finished so now came the costume! Can Can Skirts
were rented, fishnets and gloves bought, feather head pieces
made, they had stage makeup lessons which included false
eyelashes, then they were turned loose on an unsuspecting
public.
The first dance was titled "Razzle Dazzle" from Chicago and
the ladies became an instant hit.
In October of 2004 we started on the second dance
appropriately titled "If my friends could see me now".
Their success has continued an a year later they are being
asked to perform at conventions and events around
Whitehorse.

In January 2005 the ladies decided they wanted to make
their own skirts rather than having to rent them for each
performance. So with the help of Myrna (seamstress of the
Can Can Cancers) they are in the process of making their own
skirts.
The Yukon's Golden Girls would like to thank their
sponsors:
ELDERACTIVE RECREATION ASSOCIATION
along with:
ELKS LODGE for the use of their facility as a practice site
and
LAKE LABERGE LIONS CLUB for their financial sponsorship.
Keep a watchful eye out for the ladies performing as you
never know when or where they might show up and strut their
stuff.
